Isao Takahata

Isao Takahata, the man who co-founded Studio Ghibli and brought us the amazing animes: Grave of the Fireflies and Only Yesterday has claimed he has something new in the works. Sadly he cautioned the anime fans, that by the first sentence were likely foaming at the mouth with glee like I was, that the 'New Work', as it is being called, isn't going to be out for at least 2 years.

As you may know it's been 12 years since My Neighbour's the Yamadas, Takahata's previous work was released. In 2009 Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki hinted to the world that Takahata was working on something new based on the old Japanese folk tale Taketori Monogatari (The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter) in a style reminiscent of the classical Japanese scroll Chōjū-jinbutsu-giga. Takahata mentioned this old folk tale at the 62nd Locarno International Film Festival. The 10th Century tale that is practically known by every Japanese Child centres around the princess Kaguya who was found as a baby inside the stalk of a glowing bamboo plant.

We can only hope that Isao Takahata will astound us once again with this 'New Work' and we at Otaku, No Video will try our best to keep you in the know about this project as more information is released.
