Best Anime of the Modern Day

Okay so I have a question for everyone? 100 years later what will the otaku community have added on to classic western anime series. (Not old classics like Trigun or Cowboy bebop)

Er, so is this a question about anime or manga?

Also, what do you mean by "western anime series"?

This is anime, and by western I mean what Western Otaku (like America) would consider classics 100 years from now

The more I think about it, the more I doubt that any modern anime will be remembered in 100 years.

How many movies from 1910 do people remember?

Good point!
But let's try to reform this question a bit.
We think about Trigun and Cowboy Bebop as classics
In the next generations of anime fans, what will they see as the classics( please don't use the above examples!)
Thank You

Hate to be a downer here, but I don't think we can do anything but flail in the dark here. Some series get super-popular for a year or two, then fall out of favor and nobody remembers them.

I doubt many fans will watch Lucky Star 10 years from now, and as popular as Haruhi Suzumiya is, will it really be a "must-watch classic" in 10 years? Hard to say. Ditto Madoka Magica; I think that's just the popular magical girl series of the moment.

Meanwhile, Elfen Lied came out with minimal fanfare, but keeps picking up fans and being mentioned, so it seems to have serious legs.

Maybe it's just me, though. :-) Were you thinking of some titles?

I would say Eden Of the East I believe is a very solid series, Even though I have not seen Elfen Lied that seems good too. Still everyone has different preferences not all classic series are good but rather mark a turning point in anime history.

I agree with Eden of the East. It's one of those series that no one says is bad, and nobody dislikes it just because it's good. But I don't agree with Elfin Lied. I thought it was very very bad. I think people would remember FLCL and maybe Now and Then, Here and There.

yes definitely i don't know why now and then, here and there is not considered a classic it's one of the most emotionally moving series.

Best anime of the modern day? I would say Gundam Unicorn, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Death Note. There are others that are superb but may not be as popular a few years from now: Mawaru Penguindrum, Code Geass (could be wrong about this one), Eureka Seven, Darker than Black (seasons one and two), Steins;Gate, Baccano!, Borderline of Emptiness: the Garden of Sinners, Mushishi and Paranoia Agent. There are the so-called Big Three shounen but I have mixed impressions of each: Bleach, Naruto and One Piece. These are so long-running that even 10 years from now their meandering, oft-repeating plots may keep them afloat.
