Old vs. New

I’ve been watching a fair amount of anime lately. Unfortunately for the anime blogosphere, I’ve only been watching classics.

For some reason, most anime blogs seem obsessed with the new. They’ll mention a classic occasionally, but the vast majority of anime and manga being reviewed are current releases.

Nothing wrong with reviewing current releases, of course. It’s just a shame that so many classics are ignored.

How many anime sites have reviews of:

  • Legend of the White Serpent
  • Mobile Suit Gundam
  • My Neighbor Totoro
  • Lupin III
  • Bubblegum Crisis
  • Ranma 1/2
  • Tenchi Muyo!

It’s gotten me to thinking that maybe that would be a useful focus for Otaku, No Video. Tell folks about the classics. Focus on filling in fans about the great anime from the past.
