Why I’ll Never Review Naruto or Bleach

Let’s get one thing straight: I think Naruto and Bleach are fine anime series in their own ways.

I’ve read fair chunks of the manga for both Naruto and Bleach. Enjoyed them; there was some interesting depth in both.

But they didn’t fully grab me.   And here’s the problem:  each has hundreds of episodes.  That’s time I could spend watching dozens of other anime series.  It’s not that I’d hate to watch Naruto; it’s that there are so many other anime to watch. Practically speaking, I have to choose.

I also have the problem of being an anime reviewer who’s posting two reviews a week. I simply don’t have the time to watch Bleach and other anime.

So, to all you Naruto and Bleach fans, have fun! All the best. Unfortunately, I won’t be joining you.

  1. Yes, unfortunately, the more late you are to the party, the harder it is to catch up. Also, reviewing something that hasn’t finished airing doesn’t have so much value.
But you will review Dragonball Kai, right?

  3. You know, I always wondered why I never started watching Bleach or Naruto. I’d always go to start, and immediately say, ‘Nah,’ as I turn on another anime.

You’ve pegged it succinctly! “That‚Äôs time I could spend watching dozens of other anime series. It‚Äôs not that I‚Äôd hate to watch Naruto; it‚Äôs that there are so many other anime to watch. Practically speaking, I have to choose.”

Thanks for helping me understand my instinctive behaviour on this one!

  4. Naruto is probably my most-watched series (at 360+ episodes in itself, this is hardly surprising) and I’ve enjoyed most of it along the way. But for the same reasons you go into, I don’t think I’d go out of my way to recommend it to anyone, not even as a “gateway” anime for potential new fans.

Getting onboard and caught up now isn’t impossible, but I guess you’ve got to weigh the opportunity cost when choosing to do so.

  5. Watch one episode of an anime every morning over breakfast and you can watch 15 24-episode series a year. Or 28 13-epiode series. Or 365 episodes of One Piece, which is still airing at over 500 episodes.
